One of the largest contingent liability threats to Ghana's macrofiscals and debt challenges. Gigantic proportions of the unrelated Cocoa activities by COCOBOD are largely widening the fiscal pressure on us. A new strategy is urgently needed.

The minister of information is just reechoing what various state institutional heads have said with little or no action with regards to Akosombo spillage. Where are the technical people?

Given the state of the economy, what alternative did he provide to avoid those two measures? Is this an afterthought PR gimmick? Or affirming that he is out of touch? We hope he answers his 170 questions. mobile.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/…

The industrial sector of the economy on which gov't' countless promises stand has grown negative for two consecutive years and still remains so. The corner is indeed turned around rhetorically.

Good question. Per available data & policy directives prior to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia becoming VP, anyone who speaks on energy debt and banking sector crises and leaves ESLA proceeds out is [without being diplomatic] eternal liar.

The deliberate attempt to use Hitler's propanda minister Paul Joseph Goebbels' tactics to dissuade Ghanaians that Seth E Terkper endorsed gov't policies is completely false. Check the extended version.

A country whose tax to GDP ratio is still around 12% from the past two decades save 2015 alone and is seeking to grant universal tax amnesty. How can we religiously implement the ongoing IMF program and austerity measures therein.

The official exchange rate has moved from 4.20 at the end of 2016 to 15.09 as of 9 August, 2024, implying cumulative depreciation of 72% during the period. There is a need for urgent national dialogue on how to save the cedi from extinction!

Ghana's recent inflation is not an abstract word in an economic(s) test book/theory--it can be felt at the fuel pump, the grocery, in Trotro, shopping malls, hospitals, schools, markets, homes...most importantly, childcare; the cost of living has risen exponential.

"We'll not be intimidated, we'll not back down...we'll not allow them to obfuscate the issues!" A riled-up Bernard Avle, on the Citi Breakfast Show, reacts to comments by the President of the National House of Chiefs rejecting calls for a ban on small-scale mining in order to deal

If you can stretch the graph beyond 2020, you will see that both admin faced castrophic crises, but the former did not do a recession of a negative growth.

What is the purpose of granting a free allowance to trainees in colleges and depriving degree seeking students in the same field of study when student loan is highly abused? Can the fiscal space contain it? Your guess is as good as mind.

Isaac Quartson (@iquartson) 's Twitter Profile Photo

When social social expenditure is steered toward a political gain, it depletes it purpose. Reasons why I think allowances to college trainees have outlived it usefulness.

Tariff is simply a 'tax'. Higher tariff pushes cost of business to fly. In the end, consumers pay more. The Govt may be tempted to subsidize essentials (fuel, etc), adding to the deficit and cascading into debt. It is just a cyclical downward spiral.
