Did you know that Roger Scruton had a deep interest in the work of Otto von Gierke (1841-1921), the German legal historian and -thinker? This is a chapter about Scruton's interpretation of Gierke's overview of medieval German ideas of practical and legal association. Link below.

Discussing Roger Scruton’s obvious reservation regarding natural law, we discussed what could have been the reason(s) behind his reservation. I suggested the following two points. 3/1

I think it's because, despite his being deeply traditional in temperament, Scruton's fundamental metaphysical commitments were essentially modern rather than classical. And you need a classical metaphysics for natural law. I critically discuss Scruton's views here:
