It's National Hummingbird Day! (3rd time with the Cannon EOS R50 RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3. I think that's my limit. Perhaps I need a telephoto zoom lens next year?)

The school shooting hasn't resulted in death. My husband and his students are safe. Appreciate those who checked in. I am sorry if I seem unconcerned or cold. It's like all those deaths and losses I don't cry over anymore. I can't feel much of anything when it keeps happening.

"How are you feeling?"

And people needing care should not have to make a calculation of how long they could afford to stay alive without completely overwhelming their family (if they have one).

As a Cantonese speaking immigrant, I very much am not interested in eating any cat, especially not dead cats. *In Cantonese, "eating dead cat" means being a scapegoat/ taking the blame for what we are not responsible.

What finally made me cry since the shooting this week was when my husband said one student told him music was the only reason why they went back to school. "We can't let this stuff get to us lest we want to remain functional at work."

One more week of summer.

Even with an abundance of love, there's no shortage of grief.

I didn't believe ruby-throated hummingbirds really have a ruby throat until today. Bird by bird, I am learning something about myself.

Some of us were worried the monarch butterflies were missing this year. Well, they are here now. Unlike everything else, they're just a little late this year. But once they arrive, they are their usual glorious selves. Take your time to shine.

I started taking pictures of hummingbirds 2 weeks ago. I am pleased to report that I am making progress.

Stay curious and plunge into life, it says. This may be one of my favorite hummingbird pictures from the Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha this season.

Morning has broken.

This shouldn't have hit as hard as those shoes last week. The idea of triggers and glimmers is intriguing. What makes one heart filled to the brim with hope may break another into a million pieces.

Look, I am busy.

They didn't tell you being a grown-up means every season is now bear season. They didn't tell you the small print above your desk would slowly dissolve into a blur.
