We have one of the best educational systems in the world and I will work with our teachers, staff and education system to ensure all children and young people are suppprted to reach their full potential.

Thank you to all those involved in the nationwide effort to restore power and essential services right across the country, including in our schools. Everyone wants children and young people to be able to return to school as soon as it is safe to do so.

While most schools will open today, there are many schools awaiting power restoration, and others that have been damaged by the storm. I absolutely trust the professionalism of school principals and boards of management to make the right decisions on the ground.
