On this #DDay anniversary, we’re uncovering a wartime secret In March 1944, the US Army asked to close Crookston to the public, citing “secret ordnance” on site. Just months before the landings… Could amphibious equipment have been stored here? What do you think?

By 1944, the area around the Castle was known as Camp Crookston, a US Army base. It housed ordnance units, the 50th General Hospital & the 2nd Evacuation Hospital. So it’s likely the Castle quietly witnessed intense preparations for the D-Day landings. 🪖 #WWII #GlasgowHistory

Yesterday we talked about the American base 'Camp Crookston' here is Clarence “Code” Gomberg who served with the 343rd Medical Battalion talking about life in the camp in a a short clip from the US National World War Two Museum.
