Last night we were treated to a Neapolitan Baroque concert here in Durrës, courtesy of the Albania Basilicata music festival, and it’s fair to say it was banging!
I absolutely loved it.
They knew how to ‘Baroque n Roll’ in 16th & 17th century Naples (sorry)!

A tiny bronze portrait of #AlexandertheGreat discovered in a field near Ringsted, #Denmark . The ram's horns of Ammon and thick wavy hair are typical of an Alexander portrait. It was perhaps a fitting on arms, armour or horse trappings.

What a wonderful askos (a container for perfume or oil) in the shape of a lion. So skilfully made and look how carefully the fur has been painted!

Fragment from the 4thc CE Woodchester #mosaic . The 14m sq mosaic floor was discovered in 1695, but badly damaged in the 18thC. In the 1790s, Samuel Lysons published drawings which showed Orpheus surrounded by animals. Lysons gave this section to the British Museum
