Our council met today under this amazing ceiling at the prior's room at Carlisle Cathedral. This medieval ceiling is part of the prior's tower installed by Prior Senhouse circa 1505 - 1520 & is decorated with his family crests as well as those of the Greystoke & Dacre families. 😍

One of a number of old photographs I love of Carlisle Cathedral with sheep, but made even better by today's find: in 1634, Carlisle Cathedral was described as "like a great wild country church".

Lovely to be in Carlisle Cathedral last night, for a rehearsal with the Cumbria Singers in preparation for tonight’s concert. I’ve not been since giving a recital here in June 2004! It’s a beautiful space.
