The loss of life and destruction St. Louis has experienced in today’s storm is horrendous, and my thoughts are with everyone whose lives were altered today. Our first responders and community are stepping up in tremendous ways to save lives, help those who are injured, provide

The city is still building a volunteer infrastructure to best direct people who want to help. In the meantime, as we shift from immediate emergency response to storm recovery, the city needs all hands on deck to support our neighbors and help St. Louis begin to rebuild.

Our search and rescue is complete. Our fire department, with the help of other first responders, checked every single building in the affected area for loss of life. We are so grateful for their tireless work.

The Red Cross, Bi-State Metro, and the City of St. Louis are partnering with community leaders to provide residents in the tornado impact zone who are housing insecure with daily transportation to St. Louis Red Cross shelter facilities. (🧵)

Our city cannot shoulder this alone. The state of Missouri cannot shoulder this alone. We need partners at the federal level to step up and help. This is what the federal government is for. We saw a tremendous amount of damage — estimates suggest over $1 billion so far.
