We like our oats at SSF, and we’ve been at it a while I guess:) Glad to see the yields have moved up a bit! If someone had told my dad and uncle in 1947, that 76 years later we would grow 4x the yield, I am not sure they would have believed it 🧐!

Murphy’s farming laws say that there is a inverse correlation with the outside temperature and the likelihood that your barley contract will get called for! (Or is it just that I’m the only sucker willing to load at -39?)🥴

Got to see a couple legends today! Ed assured me he’s quite a bit older than these varieties and rattled off many many previous to these they’ve grown. They grew AC Metcalfe for 22 years straight! They’re onto CDC Fraser now so call Seidle Seed Farm for #plant23 seed @saskseed

Looks like it’s officially spring! The “boys” to the south are “mowing grass”:)

CDC Fraser is off to the races! Looks like August harvest in our country (assuming Mother Nature cooperates, of course!).

Crops just sighed a breath or relief, now watch them jump!!

CDC Durango is looking good. We have high expectations for this new feed barley. Seeded in a split field with CDC Austenson, so will be a nice comparison. Anyone wanting to check it out this summer, just give me a shout!

Getting so close! I wish I had a dollar for every time I check the weather forecast at this time of year; malt barley growers will understand!

Loving our CDC Fraser. From the sounds of what I’m hearing it could have a real good future in the malt industry. Here’s hoping as it’s sure nice to work with!

Oh the pain is real!

Honoured to have our farm pictured on the back cover of Seed World Magazine. We are very optimistic that CDC Fraser will make similar contributions to our farm as did the landmark varieties Harrington and AC Metcalfe! If 2023 is any indication, then I’d say it’s well on its way!

Super impressed with the new barley variety CDC Durango. It seems to be one that truly delivers what it promises! If you’re a fees barley grower, Od definitely recommend considering switching up to this one for 2025.
