Sadly, this is what I thought would happen. The fact remains that a 1.9% increase in our funding next year is not enough. We will continue to have to try to find ways to save money at a time of increasing costs. Kids will have fewer opportunities and less support as a result.

I’ve written to all Woodbridge High School parents today to set out our 2023-24 budget position. It is not good news. I urge all those who love our school to campaign for us. Without more money, I am worried that staffing cuts are coming. Young people, and ultimately society, will suffer.

The school budget situation is dire, we can’t afford the pay rises and energy costs, and the government is not listening. The best our LA can do is license a deficit for us to pay back over a few years by cutting staff. Schools need more money now or children will suffer.

Our rotas are chronically understaffed. Seniors are burnt out. Many patients are essentially having catastrophic medical events…. When you’re so understaffed and you have one individual managing thirty patients, you’ll inevitably miss things. As a result, people are dying.

Teachers’ pay in England is lagging behind Wales and Scotland.
