Great first day of screening with a fantastic team.

Great to see the emphasis on early diagnosis of cancer in the #NHS10yearplan. Its release coincided with the busiest day yet for the Leeds Lung Health Check team. A record 156 telephone health checks on Monday alone before our visit to @ASDA Middleton in 2 weeks. Yorkshire Cancer Research

#NHS10yearplan also focusing on early diagnosis of COPD. Since Nov, 62 people found to possibly have undiagnosed COPD at their Leeds Lung Health Check and referred to the Community Respiratory Team - that's about 1 in 5 of all participants. Also great to see increased smoking cessation in the #NHS10yearplan. Leeds Lung Health Check is the first to co-locate smoking cessation and #LungCancerScreening in a community setting. Over 90% of smokers agreed to see our SCPs last month as part of the Yorkshire Enhanced Stop Smoking Study. Yorkshire Cancer Research

Disappointing that the room is so empty at #WCLC2019 to see an inspiring talk from IASLC-award winning Emily Stone about Tobacco Control. Surely this is the most pressing issue at this conference.

We're delighted that the UK National Screening Committee has recommended a nationwide lung cancer screening programme. This is fantastic news which hopefully lead to many thousands of patients surviving lung cancer through earlier diagnosis and treatment.
