In 1893, Cal🌟 student Benjamin Weed discovered that a bowl-shaped spot on the eastern edge of campus had outstanding acoustics. Meetings and ceremonies began being held at the site, nicknamed 'Ben Weed's Amphitheatre.' 10 years later, the Greek Theatre was built there.

Glenn Seaborg, Cal🌟 Ph.D. 1937, Professor and Chancellor, was born April 19, 1912. He discovered or co-discovered 10 elements on the Periodic Table, won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry and was the first person to have an element named in his honor during his lifetime. (Seaborgium)

Glenn Seaborg became a Cal🌟 professor in 1937 & served as Chancellor of UC Berkeley 1958-1961. He worked on the Manhattan Project, reorganized the Periodic Table to its present configuration & chaired the US Atomic Energy Commission under Presidents Kennedy, Johnson & Nixon.

Cal🌟 UC Berkeley In between discovering elements, winning a Nobel Prize and running the University, Seaborg was an avid Cal🌟 sports fan. He served on the Faculty Athletic Committee, helped establish the Pac-8 Conference and wrote a book about it. And his last name was a Sturdy Golden Anagram!

Christopher Stevens, Cal🌟 Class of 1982, was born April 18, 1960. After service in the Peace Corps & a degree from UC Law San Francisco, he became a diplomat & eventually Ambassador to Libya. Stevens was one of four Americans killed at the US Consulate in Benghazi in Sept. 2012.
