Rates in UK are low compared to nearly everywhere in europe at present according to all 3 surveys but last 4 days the drop has plateaued on ZOE app especially in Scotland Wales + NE England. This is to be expected as mobility increased as schools went back -so no need to panic!

Despite “fears” around SA variants in London the rates of new cases dropped even further today on ZOË app - showing that we should be far less gloomy and vaccines are working - thanks for logging !

I am ecstatic to announce that our #T2T paper (w/ Karen Miga and Winston Timp) “Epigenetic Patterns in a Complete Human Genome” has been published in Science Magazine (science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…). We believe this represents the most complete human epigenome yet described. A few highlights:

Come and join us at this excellent meeting. Great line up of speakers working on epigenomic studies of disease. Very excited to be doing it in person again! #ECD22

Final talk of the day is Dongmeng Wang, about longitudinal change in alternative splicing in the MultiMuTHER project, and whether these are hallmarks of aging #gi2022

Some possible good news in bleak times is that the wave of colds is now going down and Covid-19 appears for the moment to have stopped going up ! Rates of both are still very high though as I found out . Thx for logging!

I am often asked by scientists across fields for advice & resources on how to get started with #scRNAseq analyses I summarize here such an analysis into a flowchart with 9 core steps. Analyzing your own scRNAseq data today is more accessible than ever And it gets even easier🧵

"Failure to perform p-value correction for multiple tests was identified in 43% of analyses." - How were so many published?! journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/a…

This Lexis plot depicting UK mortality across the 20th century is wild. I had no idea cohort effects (diagonal 'scars') were so strong. Events like the 1918 flu led to not only high annual mortality, but an increase in mortality across one's lifetime. HT: Saloni's newsletter.
