Still can't believe how stunning these RUBY tobacco roots are. Truly endless forms most beautiful. A great convo with Ally MacLean got me inspired to play with rooooooooots. Can't wait to get back to land plant work once the lab relocation finishes.

There are SO many positives of doing a #PhD! It can be easy to feel flooded with the negatives but this image highlights the many benefits of the phd process 😍 elifesciences.org/articles/81075

As part of our project exploring soils and greenhouse gases in the Fens, PhD student Thomas Idris Marquand Cambridge Earth Sciences visited Cam Botanic Garden to analyse the soils in their #Fens display. Such a lovely part of the garden, but are the soils like the real Fen? Find out soon....

A satisfying treasure hunt: I found 67 new type specimens of Asian and American #Meliaceae last week. They were "hiding" amongst the 1.1 million specimens of Cambridge University Herbarium (CGE). They will soon be digitised and shared online, to facilitate the work of #taxonomists. @plantsci Cambridge Collections Connections Communities

beginning cold stratification of seed collected from Kyrgyzstan in August! Counted seed (to glean germination rates) and took some photos under the microscope (for fun). #CUBG

We're very lucky to have Cambridge University scientists on site at Sainsbury Laboratory Cambridge University (SLCU). Today they took fresh plant material from our Strophocactus wittii faded flower & examined its petal surfaces and pollen. This might be the first time Strophocactus wittii has been seen in this way!

Share linkedin.com/posts/sainsbur… #CUBG curation and glasshouse team facilitated some really cool images of the moonflowers by #SLCU. Crisp pics of outer tepals and pollen to come! 👏🏼👏🏼

We love a collab & photoshoot! Quick and intriguing work by Kristina Buch and Ray Wightman at Sainsbury Laboratory Cambridge University (SLCU) to image the moonflower under cryo-SEM. Have a look at some of the stunning images. Got any more ideas for research with #CUBG? Give us a holler!
