The Cubs also DFA'd Garrett Cooper so perhaps Mervis will get some run at DH. I'm rooting for the guy and, while he's off to a nice start at Triple-A this year, he also had a 14.3% SwStr rate down there. Strikeouts were a major issue in his time with the Cubs last year.

I’ve been asked about Jordan Walker more than any player. No he’s not bad. He’s 21 and still developing. Underlying data improvements from last year:
Barrel%: 7.5%-12.5%
Average EV: 89.4-92.3 mph
ZContact: 81.3-84.6%
Contact: 70%-72.4%
Chase: 33.2-29.3%

So, that's the next one I want to look into, but ... my guess is that April Statcast data doesn't have any more predictive value than Statcast data in any other time of the year. Because, as with anything else, Statcast data is also prone to big swings!

April stats just don't matter very much. This is unfortunate for people who really, really want to overreact to April, but there's just no real evidence to suggest that a hot or slow start really matters.

This is a very good article and the response to it is a very good reminder that most people don't actually understand journalism. A reporter's job is not to write flowery love letters and baby professional athletes.

Jackson Holliday had never failed at any level. But the 20-year-old has begun his MLB career 1-for-30 with 16 Ks.

I spoke with Holliday & Orioles coaches yesterday about where he's at, how he'll break out of this, and what it means for the O's.

For today's waiver-wire piece, I wrote about why Heston Kjerstad is worth adding even without an obvious path to playing time, plus why Jason Adam should be one of the top priorities for saves right now: cbssports.com/fantasy/baseba…

I would like to publicly state that if I EVER comp a player to Prince, it's because I think they are a can't-miss multi-generational talent and I want them on my team so, so bad.

The NBA is rigged against the Lakers and LeBron James, because apparently the NBA is the most fiscally irresponsible entity in economic history?

Phillies starters currently lead all rotations in both strikeout rate (26.4%) and groundball rate (54.4%). That’s a pretty good formula if they can keep it going.
