This should be obvious, but apparently it isn’t: Getting a large tax refund is not a “good” thing. It means you lent money to the government interest free. You should aim to tax plan in a way that makes your refund as small as possible.

Isn’t this discussion really just a question of W2 versus 1099? If you are 1099 - generally makes sense not to be anonymous. If W2 - likely makes sense to be anonymous unless your employer is very open to being open on social media.

IMO many people that say owning a home “isn’t an investment” are comparing apples to oranges. If your are comparing buying a home to renting an apartment- then, of course, owning a home will cost way more. But if you compare the purchased home, to a comparable rental house,
