Today I am mostly feeling sorry for the monitoring officers and section 151 officers of councils now run by reform. They are going to be spending most of Monday explaining to new councillors the legal realities of their new roles..

Farage used the term because he knew it would increase resentment, knowing that many people would take it literally. Cost is so high because the Tories chose not to process asylum applications, increasing the length of time asylum applicants are the responsibility of government

My father was in the merchant marine and worked on both Atlantic and Arctic convoys. In all the coverage of VE80, I have not seen any merchant seamen interviewed or their sacrifices acknowledged, even though the merchant Navy has the highest casualty rate of any service.

Our new report: local political parties are renting out office space to MPs — who claim the cost on expenses. But in most cases, they pay no tax on that income — or on rent from local businesses. We reviewed 630 sets of accounts. What we found is a systemic failure. 🧵

The most recent I am aware of is sanitary products during the pandemic. However, my point is that saying that a product ‘was never in taxed in the past’. Is not a convincing argument against a change in taxation, as this would mean that no new tax could be introduced.

A reminder that this channel, this presenter, and the majority of Right Wing media, demanded long custodial sentences for nonviolent environmental protesters who blocked traffic for a short while … many of whom also had children at home. The hypocrisy of it stinks.

1. First rail company nationalised South Western Railway goes into public ownership on today. C2C and Greater Anglia will follow later this year. Part of wider plans to make our railways answerable to the people again.

What do we think?🤔 Hmm…. A Daily Mail headline so clearly designed to make you furious. Being shared by salivating Tory MPs who love a good rage farming story! So, what’s going on here? Let’s take a look!👀 🧵 1/13

Widdecombe’s lack of understanding of immigration and maritime law would be comic if it didn’t have such tragic consequences. All the more disturbing because she claims to be a Christian.

Can only find freedom indices for 2023, so no way of judging the trend. UK is 8.39 and in the highest category. Perhaps you could share the link to your data? 2/2 worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankin…
