13 June 1568: Elizabeth I’s choice for Armagh, Thomas Lancaster is reconsecrated with episcopal orders #otd Lancaster was Bishop of #Kildare & had been deprived by Mary I. This reconsecration is most unusual. Possibly even unique? (eebo)

13 June 1537: Henry VIII appoints Richard Nangle Bishop of Clonfert in #Ireland but he fails to prise it from the Papal appointee Richard Burke #otd After Nangle's death in 1541, Henry VIII ended up recognising Burke. Which is an interesting one.

20 June 1624: James Ussher #Dubliner, Bishop of #Meath preaches before James VI & I #otd (eebo/Bodleian) It is probably part of the reason he was given #Armagh in 1625 - that king’s last episcopal appointment.

This is desperately sad news. Ray was an icon of early modern Irish history and loyal supporter of Church of Ireland Historical Society. Among his many, many publications include the parish registers of Dublin in 16c and 17c published by Four Courts Press. We wish to extend our sympathies to Bernadette.
