Just landed in Juba, #SouthSudan, with Cindy McCain & FAO Director-General QU Dongyu for a joint mission. Looking forward to seeing how our collaborative work can further protect fragile livelihoods, address #FoodInsecurity, and prevent future crises through scaled-up action.
Today Cindy McCain, FAO Director-General QU Dongyu and Alvaro Lario visited Aweil to see first hand how working together can change lives throughout an entire community in #SouthSudan They met with families benefiting from climate resilience activities as well as School Meals to hear stories of change
Thank you Aweil for the heart-warming welcome🇸🇸 I was inspired to see initiatives to bolster #FoodSecurity - vegetable gardens, wells, rice schemes, school meals - and to listen to communities. Creating livelihood opportunities is key to preserving peace! Cindy McCain FAO Director-General QU Dongyu
See some of the compelling photos from South Sudan of the joint UN visit by the heads of Food and Agriculture Organization, International Fund for Agricultural Development, World Food Programme. 📸Photos by Eduardo Soteras. flickr.com/photos/faonews…
.Alvaro Lario,FAO Director-General QU Dongyu & Cindy McCain visited communities impacted by severe weather events in #SouthSudan Conflict, climate change & soaring food and fuel prices are causing a humanitarian crisis Urgent action is needed to ensure food security & build resilience to future shocks
Visiting heads of Food and Agriculture Organization,International Fund for Agricultural Development & World Food Programme concluded their South Sudan visit meeting HE President Salva Kiir Mayardit The 3 agencies signed an MOU to scale-up their world-wide cooperation in working to build household resilience, prevent starvation & boost agricultural productivity
GREAT discussions on agri & food security as H. E. president Kirr hosted Food and Agriculture Organization Director General Qu Dongyu, Alvaro Lario Dr. Lario, & World Food Programme Executive Director Cindy McCain in Juba #SouthSudan.
🇸🇸 #SouthSudan’s food security is deteriorating due to localized conflict, displacement, and climate shocks. A new project by IFAD, UN Development & South Sudan Government aimed at boosting rural development will reach 160,000 people and help them increase income & strengthen resilience.
#SouthSudan, the world's youngest country, holds immense potential despite challenges like conflict. I underscored International Fund for Agricultural Development's commitment to improve rural livelihoods and protect peace by investing in rural development and #FoodSystems to President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
