This makes very scary reading. I have been one of those GPs described in this document and I know it’s not sustainable in the long term. We need action now before the situation becomes irreversible.

What are GPs contracted to do? What does it say in the contract? There is beauty in its simplicity (a blessing) and the reason for scope creep over the years (a curse). Let me explain...

👏👏READ THIS please and let’s stop doing ‘crisp, objective highly nonspecific’ tests when you can just ask ‘how are you feeling’ But My White Count… | NEJM nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…

Fundamental issue: just because it doesn’t take a GP appointment doesn’t mean it doesn’t take GP time. I consult about 6 hrs/day; I work 10-12hrs.

There was some big news this week which should have been top of the news agenda - the fact that it wasn’t and the story that dominated the public space instead tells a worrying story about the priorities of many in this country 🧵

Public satisfaction with the NHS is at a record low - so what’s it like working in it currently? As a doctor with nearly 17 years experience working in the NHS (12 of those as a GP) I’ve never known it to be so good 😊 If by “good” I mean an absolute bin-fire of course ☹️ 🧵

We have overwhelmingly voted to reject the Government and NHS England’s 2024/25 GP contract changes. More than 19,000 GPs and GP Registrars took part in the BMA’s referendum, with over 99% voting ‘no’. Our message can't be any clearer. bma.org.uk/our-campaigns/… @DrKatie.BSky.Social

Dr Peter Weeks We are definitely not blaming GPs here. It’s clear that the problem is a lack of funding for our surgeries so that they don’t have the capacity to meet demand. That is definitely not GPs’ fault - and I don’t think we’re implying that. The fault is the government’s.

I (@CraigNikolic) often post about the NHS's "Same day" plans for in-hours general practice hubs being dangerous, and why ICBs are misusing them to fill an unfunded gap, I rarely take time to explain WHY. So, here we go They forgot to ask what patients really need. 1/28

This plus sick notes. Access for patients to the dept - bin the "patient contact centre" & put that prevarication funding into supporting the actual admin teams for the depts.

This is the message everyone should be taking home from today’s despicable announcement. The number of people of working age with a health condition or a disability is going up. And not because they’ve all suddenly become work-shy scroungers🙄 Long (sorry!) 🧵 1/25

We don't need to debate whether it's better to be a generalist or a specialist. The world needs both. Specialists excel at zooming in. They see the details to deepen our knowledge. Generalists excel at zooming out. They see around corners to broaden our view.
