My first experiment with a start-to-end project in Davinci Resolve starts today. I'm going to end, grade, mix and deliver entirely from Resolve if possible.

I've been playing with Resolve on and off for a few months. I bought the BMD micro panel and the Studio version of Resolve. I also bought a Decklink mini playback 4K, which should arrive today to drive my Flanders Scientific BM210.

I just discovered the take selector, which lets you stack multiple takes in the timeline for easy review. This is a feature I remember being intrigued by in the original FCP X, but I never spent much time in that program.

Got the Decklink mini monitor 4K installed. Took about a half hour of adjusting settings and restarting, but I now have full-screen output to my FSI BM210 while editing and coloring in Resolve. Great start!

The biggest setting that took an extra minute to figure out was how to separate SDI audio to play through system speakers. Under Davinci Resolve > Preferences > System > Video and Audio I/O you can choose "Use System Audio Output".

A few ghosts in the machine later, I seem to have gotten the Blackmagic Design Decklink mini monitor 4K up and running. I downloaded the most current Desktop Video Setup app and set the output to 1080p24. (Default was psf and that had probs.) Full vid on second screen now.

Spoke too soon, maybe. Decklink output video still seems to drop out for no reason sometimes, then comes back a minute or two later with error frames. Need to dial this in. May contact Blackmagic Design support soon.

Thanks to the support team Blackmagic Design - It took a few minutes but we did some troubleshooting and everything seems to be working just great now. We adjusted a few settings but it might actually boil down to a faulty SDI cable. Time will tell.

The Decklink mini monitor is really impressive. I'm on my FSI BM210 and I'm switching between decklink SDI and GPU DVI and I can totally see the difference. Way better color and range with the decklink, especially in the blacks.
