I heard the sad news at the weekend that the wood engraver Simon Brett died on 29 December. Well known for his his book illustrations (simonbrett-woodengraver.co.uk), he also cut my bookplate for me in 2005.

Rare example of a surviving charter by a medieval Irish King held by the National Library of Ireland - from the early 1180s it is a charter of Domnall MĂłr Ua Briain in which he styles himself 'Donaldus Obreyn, by the grace of God, king of Limerick'.

There’s something appealing about little books.  And books in original condition.  Lovely to find this little almanac, which was printed in Grenoble, still in its original printed wrappers.
