15 years. It's not something I talk about a lot, but being in the RFS has shaped the person I am today. I've got skills and mates that I'd never have had otherwise. ECRs and PhDs...I can't overstate the value of having stuff outside of science that you love

Dr Carol Pong from University of Sydney is now up with her talk on: The DNA-binding domain of Tnp26, the transposase of insertion sequence #IS26, a follow up to Chris Harmer's recent talk. #2021ASM

Excited to announce that the 661K resource is now live at Plos Biology PLOS Biology journals.plos.org/plosbiology/ar… We uniformly assembled, ran quality control and performed general characterisation on 661,405 bacterial genomes that were in the ENA at the end of November 2018.

COVID-positive just a few days out from #ASM2022 😩. It has hit me like a ton of bricks, but just very thankful I'm otherwise healthy. Devastated to be missing the conference in my home city, and not looking forward to another year of having to listen to my pre-recorded self 😫

Our newest body of work, the result of a fascinating international collaboration. Long story short....IS26 can amplify resistance genes, giving those genes new resistance phenotypes. E.g. Multiple copies of aphA1 will give Tobramycin resistance. journals.asm.org/doi/full/10.11…
