Good luck to all our Sociology students for their exam tomorrow

A fun morning in the sun with some of S3 CRIMPOLSOC completing a sociology experiment in the local community 🙌🏼 Craigmount High School

Fantastic first morning visiting The Somme.The stories we’ve heard and the sights we have seen really put into perspective the scale of the human loss and have made us question the tactics used in 1916.

Day 2. This morning we have visited the cemetery at Essex Farm where poet John McCrae wrote “In Flanders Fields”. We had a poignant reminder at the German Langemark Cemetary that loss was suffered by all sides. At Sanctuary Wood we were able to explore the trenches.

This afternoon at Tynecot we left poppies at the graves of Private Cochrane - a family member of one of our students - and Private Macvie of Cramond.

Day 2 - We visited a preserved German trench and the Passchendaele Museum to complete our day of historical sites, before heading to the town of Ypres for some well deserved free time, dinner and a visit to the famous chocolate shop!

Day 2 - Our final stop tonight was the Menin Gate memorial where we attended the Last Post Ceremony. Charlotte, Lily and Charlotte represented the school and laid a wreath to mark our respects.

Day 3 - we started our final day in Poperinge at an oasis of calm for soldiers fighting at the front. Talbot House offered the chance to rest and recover while on leave, and welcomed all ranks of soldiers. We were made to feel very welcome and were even served up a cup of tea!

Day 3 - our final stop of the tour was to Vimy Ridge, site of a battle which saw Canadian troops capture crucial high ground from German forces in April 1917. A beautiful spot for our final reflections on our time in France and Belgium.

Thanks to all families for the loan of your S3’s this week! On behalf of the staff we just want to let you know that we have had a fantastic week away and that we are so proud of the group. We’ve enjoyed lots of chats, bus karaoke and laughs along the way! 🇧🇪❤️🇫🇷
