Yesterday, I accompanied the Governor, the director of California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, and CAL FIRE Chief to assess the damage caused by the wildfires. Our thoughts are with those affected by this disaster. CHP Southern will continue to support local law enforcement through the response and recovery.
Our hearts are with those affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles County. The CHP stands with our community and is fully committed to your safety. Since the fires began, we’ve partnered with LA County Sheriffs, LAPD HQ, and the The California Military Department to respond swiftly. Together, we are strong.
After wildfires erupted in LA County on Jan. 7, the CHP deployed over 800 personnel to protect lives & property. Partnering with the National Guard, LAPD, & LASD, officers secured impacted areas & cleared roads to aid recovery efforts. From their work assisting evacuations to their administration of traffic control points and community patrols, we're grateful for CHP Headquarters's continued service during the LA fires. California proudly stands united in our recovery process — and committed to not leave anyone behind.
Meet CHP Officer Steve Hawkinson, the first motor officer assigned to the CHP Woodland. I joined him on patrol, working speed enforcement and patrolling those hard-to-reach rural roads. Whether it's the highways or the backroads, he's keeping Yolo Co. safe one stop at a time.
Our hearts are with San Bernardino County Sheriff and the loved ones of Deputy Cuevas. We honor his service, sacrifice, and dedication to his community. The CHP stands united with all who mourn this profound loss. Our thoughts are with you.
Two of our CHP - Willows officers, alongside a Good Samaritan, rescued a father and son from a fast-moving waterway. Their quick action, bravery, and teamwork made all the difference. Grateful for their service and selflessness.
