CEJN continues its reflection on the anniversary of the victory to deny the General Iron permit. Here we interview Breanna Bertacchi, member of the Stop General Iron campaign and former hunger striker. chicagoejn.org/articles/resha…

It’s unconscionable for this administrative judge to overturn the decision to deny the permit. The Southeast Side made it clear that General Iron was not welcome in our backyard. Agencies such as Department of Housing and Urban Development and U.S. EPA even deemed the proposed move an act of environmental racism.

RMG is taking a victory lap at the expense of our community’s well-being. We aren’t stopping until the permit is denied once and for all.

i have no words for this disgusting decision. know that the southeast side is resilient & united in all struggles. you all can expect our resistance, pressure & presence very soon. just another reminder that institutions will never keep us safe. only we do.

Mayor Brandon Johnson disagrees with ruling that operator should’ve been permitted for General Iron move to Southeast Side, will appeal judge’s decision and fight the case. Johnson has closely allied with movement on this fight, including having Olga Bautista on inaugural stage

As the city appeals this decision, we can't help but think they might have a stronger case about General Iron's history of violations if they had not dropped the charges for *36 different violations* in a two year period requiring no admission of liability.

STARTING NOW! Tune in to hear from @se_taskforce, ASE Chicago, Bridges//Puentes, @SEYAlliance in response to last week’s ruling over the permit for serial polluter General Iron! WATCH📺: facebook.com/ilenviro/live_…

Now speaking is LVEJO exec. dir. Kim Wasserman: "The HUD complaint was clear. Chicago has a broken permitting process, a broken citing process and a broken zoning process that needs to be fixed."

Wasserman: "Too many of our families have been sacrificed for the sake of businesses as usual." #EnoughisEnough #StopGeneralIron

Last week, an administrative law judge sided with General Iron's challenge to the city's permit denial. The shredder wants to move into the Southeast side, an area already suffering the ill effects of pollution. Today advocates spoke out against that decision! #StopGeneralIron
