Yesterday was the first day of the 2025 Ecineq conference, hosted by World Bank and GW University. Daron Acemoglu talked about new technologies - their distributive implications crucially depend on whether they increase only the average product of labour or also its marginal product.
We all know how investments can "trickle down" and may help reduce income inequality. Branko Milanovic says we should also think about how increases in labour productivity "trickle up" with important consequences for distribution.
