A lung transplant replaces the lungs but does not remove CF from the rest of the body—issues like digestive challenges, diabetes & sinus disease still persist. The body’s immune system can attack the transplanted organs, leading to rejection, infections & other complications.

CFTR modulator therapies have transformed #CysticFibrosis care for many but are not effective for individuals with specific CF mutations (about 10% of the CF population). Progress can’t stop until no one is left behind. Sponsored by Vertex Pharmaceuticals & Viatris 🫶🏽

Did you know people with CF are at increased risk for colon cancer (5-10X the general population & 25-30X Post Transplant), due to mutations to the CFTR gene, which is known to be a tumor suppressor. CF carriers also have higher risk. Education can save lives.

Antimicrobial resistance occurs when bacteria & viruses evolve to resist antibiotics. This makes infections harder to treat, more hospitalizations & increased mortality. Only 12 new antibiotics have been approved since 2017; there is a urgent need for new treatments.
