This morning Dee Dee Myers and I had an engaging discussion with Don Howard of the Irvine Foundation on how we are working to create jobs from the ground up, letting regions decide what holds the most promise for them in our #JobsFirst initiative. Thank you to California Forward for hosting us.
The CA Labor & Workforce Development Agency has been a proud partner with Governor Gavin Newsom and GO-Biz in empowering regions around the state to write their own economic futures.
As Governor Gavin Newsom said, the Jobs First plans developed here in Kern County and by 12 other regions around the state will be braided together into the most place-based, community-driven economic strategy in state history.
Today after a stop with Governor Gavin Newsom on his Jobs First Tour, I had the pleasure of stopping by the one-stop employment center in Colusa County that I ran for seven years in partnership with Yuba College. Such collaboration is a more seamless way to serve trainees and employers.
I was raised in Tehama and always enjoy coming back to the North State. Today, I joined Gov. Gavin Newsom & other educational and state leaders from the North State at Shasta College in Redding to announce the framework of our Master Plan for Career Education. Governor Gavin Newsom
Starting January 1, California raised paid family leave and disability benefit rates so millions of people can more easily afford to take time off to bond with a baby or care for a loved one. Thank you Governor Gavin Newsom for supporting California workers.
Pleased that Governor Gavin Newsom chose CSUS Stanislaus as the place to highlight the North San Joaquin Valley’s Jobs First regional economic plan. As Stan State President Britt Rios-Ellis so eloquently put it: “We live and breathe social mobility.”
California has faced huge challenges in the past 6 years. Through it all, Gov. Newsom has delivered balanced budgets that support workers. We’ve expanded opportunity with new apprenticeships and investments in industries that support middle class families. Governor Gavin Newsom

Here at the CA Labor & Workforce Development Agency we are working with our departments and federal and local partners to identify resources to help workers displaced by the fires. Disaster unemployment insurance is now available for the self employed and others who don’t qualify for regular UI.
