Linguists, can you explain exceptional case marking? In my brain the clause ‘her happy’ is in a position that wants an accusative in ‘believe her happy’ and this filters down to the first node that can admit that cae marking. But I think my brain is oversimplifying.

If the difference were very small, I would simply do the thing that does not break a promise rather than the thing that maximises utility.
