Finally made a start on #plant 2024. Only took all day to get going - electrical and hydraulic issues along with a blocked roller. Any way, nice sunset! Antas clover going in, followed by 970 canola and then Kittyhawk wheat. Irrigation on Monday. Good luck for the year all!

Kitty hawk wheat, 970 canola and Antas clover established before slugs have appeared. Better than lasts years disaster! No rain since irrigated up at start of March, so need next weeks rain or another irrigation. Happy Easter!

My Agro, Greg Toomey has disappeared for a week or so to play in a T20 tournament in India. Now an International wicket taker and living the dream. What an experience for him and the Marong Cricket Club. All games live streamed on YouTube!

Start of March irrigation got crops up and going, add 37mm rain 2 weeks later to fill in the gaps. Great illustration of the value of irrigation. Clover struggling a bit so getting a bit more water. The rest will be done next week! No sign of slugs! Why??

Still a large seed bank of rye grass in patches for this oaten hay paddock. Was Barley last year, DST prior to harvest, double knock this year at sowing. Hopefully cut 5-6t/ha export hay after a dry winter. Better pick those sticks up while I’m here.

Still no rain on the horizon, last irrigation 4 weeks ago, ground rock hard. Wheat flowering, thrown everything at it. One last drink to brink it home. Fingers crossed!

Thought I’d have a go at growing lentils after a successful crop was grown at Elmore last year. Still have a fair bit to learn, but looks like they might make it to harvest. Fingers crossed.Might be able to afford a full size Winmera Crop ruler next year!

Nothing but the US election on the radio. Non Bluetooth radio as well. Have one CD from behind the seat available. Looks like it’s on high rotation today!

Forage sorghum sown December 4 loving the warm weather. Putting a few more lambs in to up the stocking rate to 70/ha. That should keep on top of it??

Been splashing a bit of water around since sowing canola, wheat and clover from Feb 20. In crop spay required soon. All been irrigated twice seeing Autumn was late. Purchased lambs getting lost in forage sorghum which loved the hot weather. Ironically, 10mm yesterday!

Everybody is posting their start of sowing videos. (Part 2 London season crops sow end of February have had 3 irrigations!) Headland round of first paddock of main program. Dry, dusty, hard ground here at Rochester.

Never a dull moment with sheep. Found a lamb that had fallen into this underground tank last night when we were camping. Rescued today. Lucky lamb.

A bit of strip and disc action today. Beans going into last seasons wheat stubble, harvested with a stripper front. Ideal conditions after a lucky 35mm ANZAC day. Glad to have no dust- at least for a few days.

Feeding out the last of a few very valuable and very old bales of cereal hay. Lambs seem interested enough! 17mm of rain and heaps of wind in the last few days. At least they will have somewhere dry to sit!

Ok Twitter, what’s going on here? Multi canola plants are doing this. Central stem is forked and flattened with much denser pod set. They seem to be filling. Variety is Defender. Irrigated and dry land crops the same.

Harvestcalc grain loss trays still working after all these years. Even after a trip through a 2388 years ago. Just needed a little panel beating!

Donated a bit of time this arvo to stack a bit of straw for a local footy club. Straw was donated, windrowing donated and baling donated. First of a number of paddocks to be done. Just doing my little bit to help Elmore get a winning team on the ground.
