A cheeky #FossilFriday post at the end of my last day in Peru 🇵🇪 here is the best fossil I saw the entire PhD trip - an amazingly preserved head of C. hastalis, an ancient white shark. The whole head is preserved so well you can see where this guy’s eyes would have been! 🦈

During our recent #K12SharkAI teacher workshop we developed a #MachineLearning model to ID megalodon teeth. We tested our model to see how it would identify: Meg fragment-left, chocolate Meg-center & 3D-printed Meg-right. Which ones do you think the model IDed correctly? #AIatUF

Yesterday completed my and Mariela Pajuelo’s UF #BroaderImpacts grad course. Anthropology, biology, geology, education, engineering, entomology & wildlife students presented final class projects aimed at getting their science to reach broader audiences. #SciComm #SciEd #Outreach

Congrats to my graduate student, Stephanie Killingsworth, on her first paper, published today in Paleobiology (The Paleontological Society). This analysis predicts which fossil horses occurred in FL. Studies like this show fossil horses have a long history on our continent. doi.org/10.1017/pab.20…
