“Your Dryads must go into black gloves, Madam. Their father-in-law Lady Nature’s second husband, is dead! Mr Brown dropped down at his own door yesterday” wrote Horace Walpole to Lady Ossory on 7th February 1783.

Oh frosty days! It's a time to pull on your woolly hats, breath in the crisp winter air and take in views like these, where the trees stand out against a carpet of frost across the landscape. Probably followed by a hot cuppa in the café.

It's and this is Croome's oldest tree at around 700 years old.

We've carried out work to preserve and protect this English oak, including propping a major limb to ensure it stays attached and surrounding it with a hand crafted fence.

A surprise calf has been born at Croome.  Named 'Capability' by Rob, our tenant farmer, after the eighteenth-century landscape designer 'Capability' Brown who created the landscape at Croome today. The calf looks black here but it is brown... 'Capability' Brown.
