1️⃣ ‘Coming out’ is when someone tells someone else about their LGBT+ identity. 2️⃣ This process exists because we live in a society where most people assume everyone is heterosexual and cisgender. 3️⃣ Coming out is personal and different for everyone. #PrideMonth 🌈

🌈 Being #LGBT+ inclusive is a conscious decision to make LGBT+ people feel seen, included & safe. It means educating ourselves and being open to learn. It means being conscious of the words we use. It means challenging and unpicking our own assumptions. bit.ly/4koJ57j

A friendly reminder this #PrideMonth: Coming out is rarely a once-in-a-lifetime event. Many LGBT+ people may want or need to come out to each new person they meet, or may realise different aspects of their LGBT+ identity over time which they might then choose to tell people about

Historically, RSE has excluded #LGBT+ young people from learning about sexual pleasure and healthy relationships. This exclusion is discriminatory and impacts sexual health outcomes. Inclusive RSE supports all young people to feel seen, safe and respected. bit.ly/3ZPaffg

Advice to anyone considering #comingout: It’s important that you don’t put pressure on yourself to come out. If you do decide to come out, allow yourself the time to feel comfortable, confident and trusting towards the person you are coming out to. bit.ly/4jACRjB #Pride

Some people don’t face any problems when coming out but others do. It can be really difficult if the person you come out to responds negatively and won’t accept who you are. Find out what to do if someone reacts badly to you coming out on our website. brook.org.uk/your-life/comi…
