It's Women in Translation month, which means I have authors to recommend! Reading provides us the opportunity to wear masks and bear psychologies different from our own. Translators can and will spend years honing their craft to bring these singular voices to more readers.

Well, I got pretty creative with my Michele Mari translation so I’m going to say I was at least kinda published.

Today, August 20, is Lalla and Innocenzo's anniversary – would have been their 93rd. Thought I'd share a page / chapter commemorating it from Lalla's In Farthest Seas, now out in less than a week! "I was, my nature is – I don’t know whether in my core or where – wild."

(Me about to deliver a translation): This book has entered my life so much, I don’t know how I’ll live without it now, day after day (Me getting back edits): You again?!? I told you you were finished!

This is in 2 weeks' time now and I've been told there's been a good number of rsvp's, so best to come early too! If you're one of the amazing critics who's tried pitching Romano for review, remind your editors that there's lots of excitement and Jhumpa has phenomenal taste!👀

An immeasurable work of translation has come out today! Brian Robert Moore's translation of Lalla Romano's In Farthest Seas is out with Pushkin Press US. I'm ready for another devastating read. I trust Brian's translations for their painstaking and finely wrought fidelity.
