🚨📚 New book! I’m thrilled to share that our edited volume, Neuroeconomics: Core Topics and Current Directions (Springer Nature), will be out later this year. Co-edited with Patricia Lockwood & Dominic Fareri — huge thanks to all our brilliant contributors. 🧵 (1/n)

🚨 We’re hiring! Join a high-impact, multi-lab initiative that aims to uncover how vascular dysfunction drives brain degeneration. We’re looking for a scientist with experience in iPSC-based neuroscience research to help engineer vascularized mini-brains from human iPSC lines.

In these difficult times (all grants frozen) it is good to recognize the good that science can do. Very proud of our new paper on open-source 2P miniscopes! They can image dendrites in cortex and dentate granule neurons through an intact CA1. nature.com/articles/s4146…

For years I wondered how dopamine related to social behaviors. Together with Martínez-Rivera FJ we reviewed decades of literature shedding light into what is known and not known about dopamine in social contexts.

🧠 We treat depression with TMS, but don't understand how it works. Our team tracked brain changes during Stanford Neuromodulation Therapy (SNT) and found treatment reduced brain excitability by 40%, with predictive changes by day 3. Progress moving from guesswork to precision

🚨New preprint alert🚨 We used closed-loop optogenetics to causally test the importance of inhibitory spike timing in network function and found that manipulating PV+ cell theta phase locking in the dentate gyrus can shift seizure susceptibility (both ways!)

Check out new work from our lab! We developed a new way to directly control the precise timing of interneurons during behavior and found that theta phase locking is a causal mediator of seizure susceptibility in both healthy and epileptic mice.

#FluorescentFriday The lab’s 1st slice physiology recordings! Friedman Brain Institute Timelapse recording of striatal neurons ex vivo using a Thy1-GCaMP mouse 🐭 🧠 + glutamate in the bath. Thanks Romain Durand-de Cuttoli! Shout out to KEYENCE who has been great to work with customizing the BZ-X800🔬

What if we could watch AND control thousands of individual neurons in behaving mice—with stable access over months? 🧠⚡ Our new preprint introduces transgenic all-optical tools that make this possible - and a resulting surprising discovery! 🔭💡 biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 1/13 🧵

#PR Our Ms on brain atlas of circadian activity is out in Science! ~80%(508 regions) of whole brain show significant oscillations. We envisioned it at first CUBIC papers in 2014. It took a decade. Congrats, Katsu&Fukuaki! Ms→science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… DB→…ian.cfosdb.systems-based-medicine.org/database/
