Great day for the young ladies at the first CIF Central Section Women in Sports Conference at the TCOE. Thank you Kelly Jones, Matt Sozinho, and Ryan Tos for inviting me to take part in this inaugural event!

The first Black woman nominated to the Supreme Court is a former public defender. Our first voice on the Court in its 233 years has a career of standing up for those most in need. Say it with me, y’all: Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

In an emotional moment during her confirmation hearing, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson recalled an unexpected encounter she had her freshman year at Harvard. Ever since then, the word "persevere" has stuck with her — and she hopes her experience will inspire younger generations.

It was a fabulous day to celebrate the outstanding seniors in the Young Women Empowered for Leadership (YWEL) mentoring program. These young ladies have blossomed into confident leaders on their school campuses and in the community and are ready to accomplish great things!
