#MWEworks: The Water and Sanitation Development Facility - North Officials in MINISTRY OF WATER AND ENVIRONMENT 🇺🇬 led by the Manager; Eng. KtAAgwai together with Stakeholders inspected completed works for Arra-Dufile Rural Growth Centre Piped Water Supply and Sanitation System in Moyo District.

The project has been substantially completed and is currently undergoing test running. The aim of the inspection was to inspect completed works in preparation of handover of the system for operation and maintainance.

The System is expected to serve a population of 20,282 by ultimate year 2044 & is covering 20 Villages; Oppi, Ramoji Dufile, Paonya, Paonjala, Pamanjara, Kocia, Indridri, Ramoji North, South, Pakaruhwe, Pajakiri North & South, Nzerea, Oruba, Itialo, Panyara Gunya & Gunya Panyawe.

The contractor undertaking the construction works is M/s Royal Techno Industries Limited and the consultant is Asense Services Ltd.

This project is being funded by Government of Uganda and co-financed by the German Government through KfW Bankengruppe with Consulting Engineers Salzgitter (CES) as the International Management Consultant.

The Transboundary Project aims to enhance water security and resilience in Africa by unlocking the potential of sustainable groundwater development and management. The project is being funded by Global Environment Facility (GEF) implemented by Food and Agriculture Organization and executed by IWMI and IIASA.

In Uganda, implementation will focus on the UNWMZ where over 70% of the population depends on groundwater, faces pressures from prolonged droughts, urban expansion, and refugee influxes that underscore the need to improve sustainable groundwater use.

The Project activities will strengthen groundwater monitoring for data capture and integrate sustainable groundwater utilization into catchment planning through modeling, diagnostic assessment, and strategic planning.

The Project is funded by European Commission through KfW Bankengruppe under the EU in Uganda Programme Gender for Development Uganda (G4DU). MINISTRY OF WATER AND ENVIRONMENT 🇺🇬 through Water and Sanitation Development Facility - North (WSDF-North) is implementing this project on behalf of KfW Bankengruppe which is the fund manager.

Under this project, WSDF-North is constructing Water and Sanitation (WASH) facilities and infrastructures including; classroom blocks and Teacher’s quarters in 199 schools and a faecal sludge facility in Northern Uganda.
