Hear me out: In school districts where educational leaders at every level haven’t yet developed a clear understanding of what truly counts as evidence-based reading instruction, teacher knowledge becomes the lifeline. In those places, it often comes down to luck — the children

Walks with Great Minds at Ray Elementary were SO, SO wonderful. It feels good when there’s so much positive feedback and any “grows” are just options to try. Way to Go! Waxahachie ISD #TLI #CurriculumTeam

"The world does not have to be stagnant to be comfortable" Students write cool things—and, without question, it is worth it to take the time to showcase and celebrate those cool things (Probably favorite space in our classroom!)

12 hr days that are dark to begin and dark to end aren’t fun. Hello, Seasonal Affective Disorder. So I’m skipping the workout and going with Kenny Loggins, a brownie, Dr. Pepper, the Bible, Duo Lingo, and a positive sign from a classroom today. 🥰

Preservice teachers don’t only need to be TOLD what to do…they need to be SHOWN how to do it! I believe modelling in preservice teacher training programs is one of the missing pieces in teacher education so for every concept or skill I teach my B.Ed students at Trent

When your daughter’s bestie (1st yr T) gets celebrated for teaching her face off with two classes at one time, it makes your heart happy. When you did the same thing this week and you know she taught circles around you, it makes you so proud! Way to go, Katie! Waxahachie ISD

In this season of gratitude Maggie Smith’s words speak to me: “I think there is always a gap between what we want to express and what we can articulate with words. Language can only say so much.”

If a child is extremely frustrated, adjust instruction. 1. Increase support: show how to do it or do part of it yourself. 2. Lower task demands: break it into smaller parts. You don’t excuse them from the task, get mad them, or hope repeated failure will make them smarter.
