Today we visited Florence, the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and the home of the powerful Medici family. We toured their private palazzo, as well as Brunelleschi’s historic masterpiece, the Duomo.

Frontier Forts 1769-1795

Avella, PA has some serious Whiskey Rebellion history, but it didn’t stop there. In 1910, Slavic miners crucified a man they suspected of spying for P&W Coal. He was saved, but not spared. The next day they hung him again, drove nails through his palms, and stoned him to death.

Plot Twist: two weeks after the national media reported that miners crucified a company spy in Avella, PA, locals push back. They declare that the whole thing was a lie perpetuated by the owners of the Pittsburg and Washington Coal Co.
