America’s struggling businesses can’t take a recess from the economic fallout from COVID-19, @replucymcbath David Perdue Senator Kelly Loeffler. Congress should NOT take a recess without passing a relief package either. #NoRecessNoRelief
Ok. A little about engineering. Boeing sought to make a more powerful 737. They did this with bigger engines. But they wouldn’t fit under the current airframe and landing gear. So, instead of redesigning the gear, they moved the bigger engines higher on the wings. The Boeing Company more
This made the plane less stable as the center of thrust was higher against the longitudinal axis. Think about it like a sail boat. The lower the keel in the water, the more stable the boat. The Boeing Company more
To make sure pilots didn’t stall the less stable plane, they installed angle of attack veins that measure the climb angle of the plane. If too high, the MCAS system would take over for the pilot to prevent a stall. The Boeing Company
But the veins provided faulty data that caused the MCAS system to put the plane into an unrecoverable dive. There was apparently an override button, but the pilots of the two doomed planes weren’t notified or trained. The Boeing Company more
