To be buried in Nature is perpetually distracting. Everything talks to you, greets you, demands your attention: trees, flowers, the colour of the roads..

The dolmen angevin of La Frébouchère in Le Bernard (Vendée) has a 7x3.5m chamber covered by an even bigger 80 ton capstone now broken in two. The lintel from the lower trilith portal entrance (left) is missing. Built by local fairies & in more recent times used as a sheep shed.

The chamber of the dolmen at Kerguntuil in Trégastel (Côtes-d’Armor) is 5m long, 3m wide and 2m high and is covered by a single capstone. It was once used as a dwelling and later as a cowshed. One side is against a talus which may be part of the original mound.

There is a tradition that when quarrymen demolished part of the allée couverte of Diévet in Plounéour-Trez (Finistère) the blocks they knocked over rose back up by themselves and frightened them away. Despite this the tomb has suffered damage over the years.

The alignments near Ste-Barbe in Plouharnel (Morbihan) originally comprised at least 8 rows running for 500m. Now only about 40 menhirs survive scattered through the fields. These are two of the biggest ones plus a smaller one. Card by Neurdein 1905 or earlier.

The dolmen de Vaon in Les Trois-Moutiers (Vienne) is a ruined but still impressive dolmen angevin. The broken capstone and six orthostats formed a 6x2m chamber; the two supports for the trilith portal survive but not the lintel. Card by Dando-Berry in Loudun. .
