The last day of diving for the Bootham School diving trip. All of these students are now qualified and ready to develop their skills for the rest of their lives…

We’re on safari in southern Kenya, and these noisy beggars live just a little east of our tent. I don’t know what sort of animal they are, but they roar away and make a nuisance of themselves just when it is bedtime. Something should be done about this.

More #Kenyan hi-jinks. Breakfast today was overlooking Tanzania, under a tree. We were constantly interrupted by tropical birds, zebra and wildebeest. We couldn’t get the Today programme on the car radio, and it wasn’t raining like at home. Something has to be done.

It gets worse here in #Kenya! The mystery animals next door have now set up some sort of commune, with free-range offspring cavorting as they wish. This wouldn’t happen in East Cheam, I can tell you.

A last look south from our ‘plane home as we left Nairobi. You can just make out Kilimanjaro rising above the Serengeti. This made me spend the whole flight singing the #Toto classic in my head. Eight hours. Kwaheri Kenya - back soon..,

Thomas Hughes wrote “Tom Brown’s Schooldays”, but also a novel that describes in detail the fair that marked the 1857 “scouring” of #uffingtonwhitehorse. You can use it to walk the site and really see the place as he saw it. The Rest Is History National Trust

A free weekend at school allowed a quick dash to London. Friday evening - the Orchestra of the Enlightenment at the #Proms. Sublime.

Saturday night. Theatre Royal Haymarket to see “Waiting for Godot.” Superb staging, jaw-dropping lighting and a totally compelling cast. A lengthy play that flew by mixing comedy, pathos and dread so deftly I was shocked when the final curtain fell. Amazing.
