Grower query 'What happens to root growth when deep-sowing?' Wheat seedling emphasis on shoot growth to ensure emergence but reduction in root number and biomass. Long coleoptiles (+Rht18) performing better in Mace/Magenta backgrounds #FutureCrops Therese Mcbeath Bonnie Flohr
I wasn’t sure what to expect at our dry sown, non-wetting sand “robust ground-cover project” site this week, but found deep sown (12cm) Greg Rebetzke long coleoptile wheat & vetch emerging😍. Autumn break still hasn’t occurred, and anything shallow sown is ungerminated Mallee Sustainable Farming
Thrilled to host the CSIRO for the first virtual fencing trials in SA with sheep! Enormous potential for improved feed utilisation, and improve protection of our vulnerable soils. GRDC South Bonnie Flohr

Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science! We are grateful for these exceptional women in agricultural science that Nicole Baxter has captured in her work for GRDC GroundCover magazine and for FarmLink Research Research. @WomenSciAUST #WomenInScience #WomenInScienceDay
Using tarps and irrigation we are manipulating starting soil water to test long coleoptile wheat emergence from depth as part of the national GRDC project. Treatments setup this week in SA & Vic with dream team Corinne Celestina James Hunt Andrew Ware Brooke Bennett Greg Rebetzke
