Paul Auster had a most striking face & how ironic that according to his poignant memoir “The Invention of Solitude,” his father avoided him not only emotionally but literally, did not look at him (for some mysterious reason). Paul himself, warmly sympathetic, gregarious.

Dans un mail, Nick Tosches m'écrivait ❝New York n'appartient pas uniquement à Auster. Il y a d'autres cow-boys, mais il a une gâchette formidable.❞

SAD FAREWELL - Duane Eddy
Back in the late 50s and early 60s, Duane rocked that guitar with songs like Rebel Rouser, Forty Miles of Bad Road, Because They're Young, and, of course, the Peter Gunn theme. Mr. Eddy has died at the age of 86. RIP

Found this Stage Makeup book a while ago. The racial makeup chart might be a little problematic these days but I do love the jovial woman.

R.I.P. Paul Auster. Here’s his unapologetic advice to young writers. Read ‘The New York Trilogy.’ Read ‘Leviathan.’ Read ‘Travels in the Scriptorium.’

I wrote this freelance review of in 1972 and sent it to Andrew Sarris of The Village Voice, who, surprisingly, printed it. I thought you who follow some of my reviews might be interested. Next up will be something I wrote about Bertolucci’s “The Last Emperor.”

RIP Paul Auster.
A post modern literary icon for me.

When he was a teenager at a summer camp, he stood next to a boy who was killed by a bolt of lightning. He once reflected, “I think maybe that informs my work more than any book I have ever read.”
