Imagine getting health care right away. That's what it's like in Japan's universal system. Our new documentary examines their system and lessons for Canada.

Can you fool a plant into mis-identifying a beneficial symbiont? Yes you can! Check out our new paper where we use comparative transcriptomics to identify bi-functional signalling hubs controlling pathogenesis and mutualism in Eucalyptus. dx.doi.org/10.1111/ppl.70…

Ribosome density is often used as a surrogate for translation efficiency. However, this article suggests differences in translation elongation rates across mRNAs: ⬛️ Translation elongation rates vary up to ∼ 20-fold among transcripts. 🧵

When you look at the graph below ⬇️, it’s clear how damaging the GST holiday really was. It opened the door to opportunistic pricing — when retailers use temporary policy changes as cover to adjust prices in their favour, often leaving consumers worse off once the policy ends.

Canada’s economy will survive Trump, but more and more people simply will not survive our health care system. That’s our existential crisis theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…

According to the CBC, Quebec’s liquor board (SAQ) is sitting on $27 million worth of American wines and spirits. Since March, this stockpile has cost Quebec taxpayers $500,000 in storage fees. Some of the inventory must now be destroyed as it’s no longer sellable — and more

In 1938, a striking photograph captured a woman standing defiantly with a sign that read, “Our boss owns 77 houses, we can’t pay rent.” She was part of a picket demanding higher wages while working for a tobacco company in Richmond, Virginia. Her stance and expression convey both

The failures of Canada’s health care system go well beyond partisan politics. A 16-year-old died in excruciating pain in ER because the system cannot keep up. It needs to be rewritten on the federal level theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…

The Globe and Mail just published what I see as one of the most honest, balanced assessments of Carney’s first 100 days as PM since his April election win. Spoiler: it’s not flattering. theglobeandmail.com/politics/artic…

Canada quietly admits what many suspected: Canada’s counter-tariffs hit CUSMA-exempt goods. Today, Ottawa rolled them back—OJ, peanut butter, wine, etc. If they were never allowed in the first place, why did Canadians pay higher prices for months? #cdnpoli #trade

I've slept on it, and I still have the same view: yesterday was the day that Mark Carney did the complete *opposite* of the big thing he said he was going to do. In campaigns, you rarely lose because of just one thing. But yesterday may prove the exception. Oh, and the hockey
