For the past ten years, Kasena Changawa has been using buckets of water from the Kwa Pembe water pan in Vishakani to irrigate his tomato, okra, and kale farm.

To assist farmers like Kasena in enhancing their livelihoods, Chief Officer for Agriculture Teddy Yawa has supplied a water pump to farmers at Kwa Pembe water pan in Kaloleni ward.

The objective of the Crop Directorate is to promote year-round productivity in Kilifi County and decrease dependence on rain-fed agriculture by implementing irrigation methods

Congratulations are extended to the Ihaleni Kakuluni Self Help Group in Mnarani Ward for successfully harvesting 139 kilograms of milkfish from one of its two newly established fish ponds.

Mr. Herbert Tawa Mwachiro, the Chief Officer for Blue Economy, Mr. Patrick Kiara, the National Project Coordinator for KEMFSED, and Mr. Collins Ndoro, the KEMFSED Component 2 Lead, paid a visit to the group to witness this inaugural harvest.

These ponds, which were financed through the KEMFSED grant, will serve as a means for all 24 members of the Ihaleni Kaluluni Self Help Group to generate income and improve their overall quality of life.

This achievement serves as a demonstration of our commitment at the Directorate of Blue Economy - Kilifi County to promote the sustainable management and development of fisheries within the Blue Economy framework and the fishing value chain

H.E. Gideon M. Mung'aro, OGW officially launched 31 modern fishing boats equipped with outboard engines, aimed at improving access to offshore waters. This initiative is expected to boost fish production and provide additional income for our fishing communities.

Through the KEMFSED grant, the Directorate of Blue Economy facilitated the procurement of these boats for 31 Common Interest Groups. Out of these, 28 boats were allocated for deep-sea fishing, two glass-bottom boats were designated for tourism purposes...

and one surveillance boat was designated for the Kuruwitu Co-Management Area (CMA).

Congratulations to the Chuga Chuga Self Help Group in Rabai Kisurutini Ward for the successful harvest of 208 kilograms of Tilapia from one of the two newly established fish ponds.

Dr. Chula Mwagona, CECM Blue Economy, visited Mwele Village to witness this significant first harvest. Supported by the KEMFSED Grant, the group effectively built two liner ponds, stocked them with tilapia, and acquired fish feeds and cold storage equipment.

This accomplishment demonstrates the Kilifi County Government's dedication to promoting the sustainable management and development of fisheries within the Blue Economy framework and the fishing value chain.
