The clock has been started by Cambridgeshire County Council to fell hundreds of trees, including ancient Bramleys, oaks, ash & elms. South Cambridgeshire District Council has delayed protection orders for 12 of the oldest ones for 265 days. Zero hour: 8 Jan to object. Act now: cotonbuswayaction.com #NationalTreeWeek 🌳🪓❌

Green future or greenwashing❓ South Cambridgeshire District Council offers 6 saplings to Coton while failing to protect 12 ancient Bramley apple trees and backing a busway that will fell hundreds of mature trees. scambs.gov.uk/climate-emerge… #SaveCotonOrchard 🌳🚌❌ ✏️ change.org/p/save-the-gre…

john lindsell South Cambridgeshire District Council The council boasts of planting 500 trees since 2019—maple, alder, birch, cherry, oak, etc. Yet in Coton Parish, we’ve planted 1,680+ Woodland trees, plus 100+ fruit trees in 2 years. These saplings can’t replace the 40–100-year-old trees and hedgerows they’re supporting felling.

Today, we joined Coton Loves Pollinators 🐝 🍃💚🍃 to plant a sapling cultivated from the tree of Barrie Juniper—a renowned British plant scientist and Oxford professor—grown from seeds he collected in Tian Shan, the ‘Heavenly Mountains’ spanning Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and China’s Xinjiang province,

A frosty aerial view of Coton Orchard & Madingley Hill Preservation reveals the true scale of what’s at risk. Without leaves, it’s clear how many trees there are and how tall they stand, dwarfing buildings. With a TPO granted for the ancient Bramleys, we’ve won a battle, but the fight goes on

Amidst the GCP’s half-a-billion-pound bonkers busway bonanza—bulldozed figuratively now, literally later—it’s nice to have some good news. Ems & Leo of BlueBarrelCider and Trees_Are_Good have been quietly cracking on, helping neighbours, communities, and nature alike. Their

Six months ago a seed was cast, a post, a gift of pips. From the forests of Kazakhstan and the Heavenly Mountains to Coton’s Story Orchard, from Barrie Juniper’s hands to BlueBarrelCider. Origins in the East to England’s Eden, the story grows. With thanks to Robert Macfarlane 🌳🍎

Coton Loves Pollinators 🐝 🍃💚🍃 BlueBarrelCider Really so happy about the germination of so many of these precious pips! The back-story is here for anyone interested. emergencemagazine.org/essay/east-to-…

Last grafting class of the year—huge thanks to Leo BlueBarrelCider for a brilliant, informative day, and to Coton Orchard for hosting (and breakfast!). 30+ trees added to the nursery for planting in the community. A hopeful day, planning for a future beyond the busway threat🌱🐝

Brilliant morning. The Orchard looked beautiful in the sunlight. Thank you BlueBarrelCider Coton Loves Pollinators 🐝 🍃💚🍃 and Bonkers Busway Cambs

Robert Macfarlane BlueBarrelCider Potted on our 8 little Deakin/Macfarlane saplings today. After Easter they’ll go to their guardians around the village till they’re big enough to go into the orchard 🌱🐝

A bright, blustery morning at BlueBarrelCider’s Arcadia Orchard, where we picnicked under the blossom, sipped cider, and wandered the orchard with Leo. Idyllic 🌸🐝

Loved our picnic under the blossom BlueBarrelCider with Coton Loves Pollinators 🐝 🍃💚🍃 yesterday. Places like these are disappearing in Cambs please support people who nature them and vote for candidates that protect them #SaveOurOrchards #SaveCotonOrchard 🗳️🟢⚪️🔵✅ Cheers 🍏🍐🍻 🐝

🍎 BlueBarrelCider named their sweet, still cider ‘Cuckoo Returns’ for the bird that called as it was ready. Last year, Coton’s Bramley trees fed the blend. Tonight, the cuckoo sang the year’s first call. Raise a glass, sing Wasail❗️ Help #SaveCotonOrchard #NationalCiderWeek 🍺

Huge thanks to BlueBarrelCider, Trees_Are_Good + Coton Loves Pollinators 🐝 🍃💚🍃 for all they do for nature, for communities locally and beyond. We’ll be raising a glass tonight to everyone who’s stood up to help #SaveCotonOrchard. Whatever the election brings – cheers, and onward 🍎🍺 #CiderWeek
