ACTION ALERT: HB 83 claims to be a "Combatting Violence, Disorder, and Looting and Law Enforcement Protection Act." But what it really does is silence and criminalize everyday Mississippians who want to exercise their First Amendment right to peacefully protest.

[Thread]❗️Reasons why HB 83 is a bad bill for Mississippians❗️ 1. Makes protesting punishable by felony, which could take voting rights from the protester. 2. Rips unemployment benefits of people peacefully protesting.

3. Makes it easier for law enforcement to arrest protestors. 4. Makes it easier to charge individuals, advocacy groups and student groups with racketeering. 5. Gives immunity to business owners who kill peaceful protestors.

6. Allows drivers who injure or kill protestors to avoid liability. 7. Creates minimum sentencing for intentionally obstructing or interfering with traffic or use of sidewalks.

Bottom line, HB 83 is an attack on Mississippians' First Amendment rights.
