This is not democracy and these are NOT protestors. The Constitution ensures a peaceful transition of power. In 2020, freedom STILL ain’t free. America, your conscience is showing. Act accordingly. The world is watching. #BLMSIP

ACTION ALERT: HB 83 claims to be a "Combatting Violence, Disorder, and Looting and Law Enforcement Protection Act." But what it really does is silence and criminalize everyday Mississippians who want to exercise their First Amendment right to peacefully protest.

[Thread]❗️Reasons why HB 83 is a bad bill for Mississippians❗️ 1. Makes protesting punishable by felony, which could take voting rights from the protester. 2. Rips unemployment benefits of people peacefully protesting.

ACLU of Mississippi (@aclu_ms) 's Twitter Profile Photo

3. Makes it easier for law enforcement to arrest protestors. 4. Makes it easier to charge individuals, advocacy groups and student groups with racketeering. 5. Gives immunity to business owners who kill peaceful protestors.

6. Allows drivers who injure or kill protestors to avoid liability. 7. Creates minimum sentencing for intentionally obstructing or interfering with traffic or use of sidewalks.

43 Senators — Including Mississippi’s finest in U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith and Senator Roger Wicker — voted to acquit the man who almost singlehandedly sabotaged democracy. Let’s continue to put our VOTES where our mouths are and elect officials who truly represent ALL of our state. #BLMSIP

Read Nick Judin's Part 3 in his #jxnwater series to understand how Jackson water and infrastructure got to this point. It was a lot to do with white flight, reaction to school integration—and the federal guv bailing on help with environmental compliance costs under Ronald Reagan.

Nearly all of the state’s most powerful elected officials have failed to even acknowledge the problem, let alone offer up solutions. buff.ly/34fo1La
