The Memphis (TN) Sanitation Strike took place Feb 12-April 16, 1968. After the deaths of 2 men, the majority black workforce demanded higher wages & safety measures. They received support from national civil rights figures, including MLK & Bayard Rustin. ➡️bit.ly/4kiuOcP

Feb 26: #OTD in 2012, Trayvon Martin (1995-2012) was killed in Sanford, FL. George Zimmerman, who found the unarmed teen's presence "suspicious" was charged but acquitted of his murder. Martin's death was a catalyst for the #BlackLivesMatter movement. bit.ly/2FPGIqh

The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion (1945-46) was the only all-black, all-female battalion overseas during WWII. Known as the Six Triple Eight, they were brought in to manage a backlog of an estimated 17 million pieces of mail. Read more: bit.ly/3F1WnXv
